Notes from Underground, Diary of a Madman, and The Yellow Wallpaper are all
stories told by an unreliable narrator. Write an argumentative essay that compares and
contrasts two stories with unreliable narrators, using quotes and specific examples as
evidence for your position.
Questions to Consider: What makes your two narrators unreliable? Are they unreliable
in the same way? How does the narrator interact with other people? Is there some way
in which the narrator reflects a bigger illness in his/her society? Is there some way in which the narrator draws out an illness in his/her society? Why would an author choose
an unreliable narrator instead of a truthful narrator?
Use direct thesis by listing the main points in the thesis statement
