Why its important to have mental health professionals in school buildings, how teachers don’t take mental health seriously, how teachers need more training when it comes to mental health, and how one school counselor is not enough support for students

!PLEASE INCORPORATE THESE FOLLOWING IDEAS AND INCLUDE RESEARCH!
I would like to implement a classroom dedicated to mental health. This puts more trained professionals in the building for students who struggle with their mental health. I feel like this is necessary because mental health for students/mental health in general wasnt taken seriously until the pandemic.
My idea is is there be a space/classroom for students to go for them to feel free to speak their minds(parents will only be notified if they are suicidal otherwise conversations MUST BE confidential), color, listen to music, lay down.
School work will still be completed once the student feels comfortable
Therapist will differ on traumas and religious beliefs
Teachers will have more training on dealing with mental health
The school will need to be involved with a therapist group that specialize in different trauma areas and mental illness
SAD affects 15 million adults, or 6.8% of the U.S. population. SAD is equally common among men and women and typically begins around age 13. According to a 2007 ADAA survey, 36% of people with social anxiety disorder report experiencing symptoms for 10 or more years before seeking help – Anxiety & Depression Association of America
Anonymous google form poll to see if students are comfortable with the idea
Interview teachers
The overall plan is to get everyone in agreement that we should have a space and specialist dedicated to mental health, by conducting research this plan shall fall through.
Information from Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics states that the average salary for a school psychologist is $77,430. That means if we are short by between 35,163 and 63,135 school psychologists then it would cost our public education system between $2.7 and $4.9 billion annually to meet NASP’s recommended ratios. – National Association of School Psychologists
I would do polls and pie charts.
It will ensure the wellbeing of students.
Why would we need more counselors when we already have one
One counselor is not enough for hundreds of students with mental health issues. Student may not be comfortable talking a counselor that attends to several students. This can result in students distancing themselves and being felt as theyre a burden.
