Prompt 1:  Which marriage was the most beneficial for Janie? Use evidence from the novel to support your claim. You might argue that the most “beneficial” is the one that made her the happiest, or you might argue that another marriage was beneficial for her for some other reason. You get to decide, but support your argument well!

Prompt 2:  Choose one of the symbols from the novel, and discuss what the symbol represents. This means you should include a discussion of how the symbol is represented and evolves in the story, as well as how the symbol connects to the author’s overall message.
