In this first Research Paper step inform me which of the topics below you intend to research and write about. Explain why this catches your interest, what you hope to learn, and how you hope your research adds to our knowledge of the era.
These early topic choices are aspirational; you are not locked in if you choose to alter or diverge from your original topic later. Declaring your interest will help me respond with useful suggestions, readings, or other ideas and will help you start the paper process.
Generally, I will push every topic choice to be more focused. In the proposal you should aim to establish the boundaries of your research (think about the time and place you want to understand), assert a tentative thesis/argument, briefly discuss the primary sources and relevant secondary works that you hope to consult, and explain how your paper contributes to our understanding of Texas history. It is 100% fine if you do not have all this information this early in the project, but include whatever you can. The purpose of the proposal is for you to identify what you intend to accomplish and to communicate to me that you have a plan to succeed.
