Option One: The Biographical Speech

Any university student has an obligation to “live in the mind beyond his or her own time in history.”  For instance, many of you may recognize only a few names from the list provided for this assignment (see below), but as a scholar, your “awareness” should extend beyond your own time lifespan. And your audience should have knowledge of these historically significant individuals.  One option is to provide a Biographical Speech that profiles the contributions of a notable figure.

Thus, this assignment asks that you select an unfamiliar name from the list (or email me to propose a different person in history) and, using the sample speech (posted) and general outline provided, inform your audience of the life of an important figure from history.

Note:  For the Biographical Option, you will find a sample speech, a list of acceptable topics, and a general outline for completion of the speech.
LENGTH OF THE SPEECH

You will deliver a speech ranging from 3.5 to 6 minutes in length. Only drafting and practicing the speech will give you a clear indication that you are meeting the minimum time parameters.  The sample speech is the next item in the module.
