Social spaces where cultures meet

Professor of Linguistics and Literature Mary Louise Pratt coined the term Contact Zones to describe the social spaces where cultures meet, clash and grapple with each other, often in contexts of highly asymmetrical relations of power, such as colonialism, slavery, or their aftermaths as they lived out in many parts of the world today.

How can this concept of Contact Zones be applied to the written accounts of Christopher Columbus, Don Antonio de Otermn, and How the Spaniards Came to Shung-Opovi? Use at least one specific example in the form of a direct quote from each text.
