I live in Raleigh, N.C. Raleigh has ranked highest in terms of hiring opportunities among the 50 largest metro areas according CNN Money. ?Raleigh has long held a reputation for tech companies looking to flee the expensive Northeast corridor.? (Sahadi, Jeanne, 2015) It also has a free labor market which can have advantages and disadvantages. Due to immigration and people locating to Raleigh, mainly from the north, the cost of living has risen significantly over ten years. It?s fortunate that people go where jobs are available, and our economy has opened opportunities for companies to make their offices in our area. In addition, although it?s against the law to hire illegals, companies do so anyway to fill the needed workforce. Seemingly, the rising population increases the cost of living and all job positions are filled. Although it?s figured that the immigrants take the jobs that most Americans wouldn?t want. Proverbs 13:4 states, ?The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.?
A free labor market can be good or bad. It fills labor shortages and the jobs that are undesirable, it lowers the unemployment rate, and prevents wage inflation. Cyclical job markets benefit by the movement of labor when the economy booms. If labor shortages exist, it will put strong upward pressure on wages; higher wages can easily lead to inflationary pressures. (Budd, John W, 2013) Free movement of labor means rising wages will attract more labor into a region and prevent excess wage inflation. Also, there may be shortages in certain professions and these vacancies can take a long time to fill. If there is free movement of labor, qualified workers will be attracted to fill these vacancies making the economy more flexible and overcome shortages quicker. However, the competitive environment of free market can create an atmosphere of survival of the fittest, wealth is not distributed equally, and there is no economic stability because greed and overproduction cause the economy to experience robust growth and cataclysmic recessions.(Sauer, Thorsten, 2013)
Free market is what made this country so great. Government regulation may help to some degree, but there is no way to monitor the workforce.
