Consider to what extent the events of the 20th and 21st centuries are the result of ideas and events from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Put another way, with our studies complete, in this essay you should describe to what extent have the social, political, economic and cultural influences of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries had upon the last 120 years. Two examples: The Ottoman Conquest of southern central Europe (they were at Vienna’s doorstep as late as 1683) has influenced policies in present-day Europe, especially in Hungary, where leaders use that historic fear of Muslim occupation to justify anti-immigrant and anti-refugee policies.  The writings of Marx in the 1840s and 1850s had a direct influence on Vladimir Lenin, who established the Soviet Union in the 20th century.
