Documents how the American population begins to be reshaped by the influx of people that began in 1880 and continues into the 1940s, as Cubans, Mexicans and Puerto Ricans begin arriving in the U.S. and start to build strong Latino-American communities in South Florida, Los Angeles and New York

Write a short essay response to PBS Documentary, Episode 2, Empire of Dreams of at least 300 words:

Give a summary of Episode 2: who? what? when? where? 

Give your critical and personal reaction to the documentary.

Discuss what are some of the different aspects and circumstance of various Hispanic demographic groups seeking a new life in the United States? How do Cubans differ from Mexicans? What is the unique position of Puerto Ricans in terms of immigration to the United States? What role does U.S. labor markets and economics play?  Back up your argument with examples. (20%)
