MODULE 5
Objectives
In this Module you will learn to:

Identify fundraising tools that includes people, skills, equipment, and technology
Develop a strategy and fundraising plan for a human services organization
Design a specific fundraising event for a human services organizations
Critically think about an ethical dilemma that may impact your fundraising event and develop a plan to resolve the issue.

In this Module you will have an opportunity to practice all of your skills in Fundraising and Event Planning. A Case study is provided for you so that you may work through this Module identifying what type of fundraising event you would like to develop, who you want on your team in terms of resources, what responsibilities they will have to the event, a timeline will be developed, and a budget will also be needed. You can think creatively about what you want to accomplish and how you will do this. The marketing and media will also need to be considered. Review Chapters 11 and 12 to help you with this piece in Effective Fundraising for Nonprofits. We will continue to work with the text, so use as many chapters as necessary.

Managing Your Staff
SKILLS ASSESSMENT
As the new Executive Director you have a small staff of three full-time workers. You like to get to know them, both professionally and personally. Your Assistant Director, Maria is a 34-year-old Caucasian woman with a Social Work degree from a local college. She is trained to work with individuals, groups and families and is eager to assist you in whatever way she can to grow programs. She comes with 10 years of experience in programs from a local recreation center. Maria also has two kids, a two-year-old daughter named Katie and a 4-year-old son named Scott.

Your Administrative Assistant, Jamar, is a 28-year old Asian man with a two year Business degree. He will handle all your bookkeeping, payroll, front reception, telephones, and any secretarial or record keeping work you need to have completed. He is a computer genius and has already started setting up your online accounts. Jamar is single with no children but has a steady girlfriend. He enjoys all outdoor sports and is an avid swimmer and golfer. He is looking forward to setting up the social media accounts.

Your Activities Director, Lakesha, is a 24-year-old African American woman trained in Early Childhood Education. She has a limited employment background, with only a few months of experience as a substitute teacher, but has completed many hours of volunteer experience. She also has a year of internship experience from her education degree and several excellent recommendations. Lakesha is a trained modern dancer, loves to travel, speaks fluent Spanish due to her year of study abroad in Costa Rica. She is eager to begin establishing programs for children and youth.

You believe that you have a great staff with lots of energy, a positive attitude, and a willingness to create something new and exciting for the community. You firmly believe in leadership, collaboration, and teambuilding.
