Essay Question:

The decades of the 1960s and 1970s saw significant social change throughout the country.  Some historians refer to the push for expanding rights a “Civil Rights Revolution.”  Discuss the gains made by women and ethnic minorities in the 1960s and early 1970s. Describe how events during that 20-year time-period contributed to changes for each group and how those changes initiated a backlash by others who did not support social change.  Make sure you discuss changes that affected women, black, Native American, Chicano/a, and gay/lesbian Americans. Provide numerous specific examples when discussing each of the groups.
