Sigmund Freud (1930) ‘Civilization and its Discontents’. In The Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud, vol.21. London: Vintage. Chapters IV-VI, pp.99-122.  (This represents Freud’s later, more fully developed version of his theory and is one of his most important works. The lecture will focus on this text.)
