Garden Manuals

A vast array of gardening manuals and journals are found in botanical libraries, dusty shelves at used bookstores, not to mention what a home gardener may write or refer to for guidance.  In California we depend largely upon publications such as the Sunset Western Garden Guide since it is specific to our climate.  If you visit the Delta college campus library the Horticulture section is full of great books!  Most contemporary writings are focused on lower maintenance, sustainability, little or zero chemical use,Graft

organic practices to build and maintain optimum soil nutrition and encouraging healthy populations of beneficial insects.  Much of the advice we follow, such as grafting, came from the writings of Roman garden practitioners. We can also thank the Greeks for translating former writings into ‘modern’ language, since they were fantastic academics but not so great gardeners.
