Each student will select a figure in history, such as Ida B. Wells,  Jacob Riis, Dorothy Day, or Dorothea Dix to name a few, and research their contributions, values, experiences that motivated them to do their work, and how they advanced the social work profession.  The paper should be 4 pages in length. Use the following outline for the assignment:

To what extent have your individuals accomplishments been preserved in history?
What did you admire about your historical figure?
What surprised you about your historical figure?
To what extent was your individual involved in macro-level social work issues (policy, issues involving more than one person)
What did you learn about your individual that you believe has relevance for current social policy and social work?
What sacrifices did your figure endure to accomplish what he/she did?
To what extent was your individual an advocate for governmental actions to address social problems?
