Disaster

The purpose of this assignment is to present a case study of a disaster and all of the relevant elements that we have covered so far in class. These factors include a consideration of: the scope of the disaster, community impact, psychological and health risks to first responders, psychological assessment, impact on psychological functioning of first responders and civilian victims and need for community outreach.
In order to complete this assignment:
1). Identify and present a disaster that occurred in the past 20 years. As part of this discussion, include how relevant media sources and political events influenced the response to this disaster. NOTE: You may reference the 9/11 case study provided as part of the course materials as a guide, but you cannot copy information directly from this article.
2). Discuss the impact of the disaster on the community/civilian victims and identify the psychological and health risks to first responders. NOTE: Do not simply discuss general risks, but rather, make sure they are relevant to the specific disaster you are presenting.
3). Explain how you would assess for trauma-induced psychiatric disorders in first responders, following this disaster. What factors might challenge this process?
4). Identify how community resources were strong, and areas in which they were lacking following the disaster. What suggestions for community outreach efforts would you make?
In addressing these areas, you must provide information from at least two (2) scholarly sources (which are peer-reviewed journal articles or published books) that are not already provided as part of the course and for all concepts you must show where you have learned your information by citing your sources in general.
Please use APA formatting for sources, which includes both in-text citations and a reference page. For assistance and resources on APA formatting style.
Work should be submitted in a Word document (doc. or docx.) and be about 8 pages in length (excluding the required title and reference page).
