Organized academic writing reflects a number of characteristics:  (1) Remembering of information; (2) Understanding of information; (3) Applying and Analyzing information; (4) Evaluating information.  The grading of critical reaction papers will focus on applying, analyzing, and evaluating information.  Papers limited to remembering and understanding information will receive a reduced grade.  All critical reviews, to receive full points, MUST have four sections:  (Section One is worth 2 points) In three or four sentences, tells what the subject/thesis of the review/book is.  (Section Two is worth 1 point) In a short paragraph describe the contents of the core text used in the review (Sections One & Two should be no longer than 300 words in length).  In Section Three, you explain, from your view, what was positive and negative about the book and/or topic of review.  Regardless of your opinion, you must support why you hold it based on examples from the courses texts and lectures. This section must be at least two pages long. (Section Three is worth 10 points.)  Section Four should be three or four sentences long.  Should sum up the points you discuss in section three and express a conclusion about the book and/or topic of review. (Section Four is worth 2 points.)
