Compare and contrast a performance of the same piece of Baroque music (at least eight minutes in length) by period and modern instruments; possible recordings for comparison are posted on Blackboard.  You should learn enough about the piece so that you can write about it intelligently.  Follow a score while you are listening.  The paper should about 600 words in length, double-spaced, and include consideration of such topics as the sound of the instruments and voices, the techniques used, attention to other aspects of performance practice, and intentions of the performers.  The paper is due on Friday, March 19, and will be discussed in more detail in class.
