A central objective of the Buddhist tradition is to abandon desire. Why do Buddhists
believe this is a valuable goal to pursue? Xunzi, by contrast, thinks that abandoning
desire is unnecessary. On what grounds does he believe this? Explain at least one
argument that followers of Buddhism could use to criticize Xunzis position, and at least
one argument Xunzi could use to criticize Buddhism. Which side of this argument has a
stronger case?
