ASSESSMENT BRIEF:
The Future! The objective of the assignment is to suggest realistic, well-matched suggestions to ‘keep up’ with the relentless omnichannel movement to enable the business to survive 5+ years into the future. The march towards 100% omnichannel is getting expensive and has a lot of digital and electronic technology embedded into it. COVID-19 in 2020-2021 completely changed the retail landscape. The future is bleak for a business that does not adapt and change.
It is recommended you sift through all of the weekly workshop material and put the ideas/strategies into 3 piles:
Pile #1 TRASH: not relevant now, or the foreseeable future for my retail client.
Pile #2 NOW: Potentially use these in Assessment #2.
Pile #3 FUTURE: Potentially use these in Assessment #3
along with your own independent research/ideas to help with this assignment.
Specifically, you should:
Write a report to the retailer:
1/ Identifying what you see is their biggest challenges and opportunities over the next 5+ years, as identified in the NZ ‘Big Issues in Retail Survey’, the weekly LIVE Workshop material, and your own research.
2/ Draw upon your insights/material/research in Assessment 1, and the analysis you did in Assignment 2,
and then, recommend a number of future blue-sky [See note #1 below], ideas/strategies/items/widgets your chosen (store) and retailer should plan to implement within the next 5+ years to offset these challenges or take advantage of the upcoming opportunities you have identified. (14 marks)
3/ Justify ‘why’, [See note #2 below] by using facts, figures, local statistics, academic literature, and marketing best practice from around the world. i.e. Says who? and So what?. (2 marks)
In addition, with each suggested idea/strategy/item/widget:
4/ Give a ‘ballpark figure’ (educated guess) of the cost to create or implement, and,
5/ Provide a suggested company that can build/deliver/supply that idea/strategy/item/widget.
NOTE: Suggest you look at who wrote or sponsored the articles on various technologies/omnichannel techniques you have been reading/researching as they are potentially able to provide you with indicative pricing – however, do NOT reveal your client’s business name [See note #3 below] to them! (2 marks)
6/ Use of correct grammar, spelling, APA referencing, report style (2 marks)
TOTAL: 20 marks
