“There have been several occasions where my preceptor has collaborated with the other providers to make sure adequate care has been provided for the patient. For example, when reviewing a rare abnormality of a CT finding, my preceptor collaborated with the physician to make sure the best care was given to the patient. The physicians in the practice are always willing to collaborate when the other nurse practitioners or myself, if there are any questions. This type of positive work environment and support will decrease burnout and decrease workplace stress (Moss, 2019). However, this isnt always the case and collaboration among health care providers isnt successful. According to the article The tortuous journey of introducing the nurse practitioner as a new member of the healthcare team, collaboration doesnt occur. While there are several different reasons for failed collaboration, one is physicians viewing the NP as an important part of the health care team but not a fellow provider (Andregrd & Jangland, 2015).

I have felt completely comfortable asking questions or even giving input in this clinical setting. I currently work in radiology, so I was able to give some insight on procedures Radiology can provide to benefit their patients. For example, we had a patient who needed a kyphoplasty and they were going to refer the patient to a local orthopedic (who is booked and wait times are very long) and I was able to give insight that interventional radiology could also provide this service and might be able to get it done much faster than the orthopedic.”
