Assignment 2: My Good Idea – Problem Buster: Report

Solution Proposal to Problems and Pain

Imagine a good idea to solve a root cause problem for a crowd of students that causes them, higher education organisations and any other named party unacceptable levels of system and human pain

Determine if the critical actors within the start-up and then the eco-system that the app would operate within, are ready, willing and able to support the development, and then adopt your solution when launched

Establish what measurable levels of pain exist today, what the needs of the consumer would be to embrace the offering and, determine if your good idea would meet or exceed their needs

Identify what the value impact would be to the identified actors and enterprise if the needs of the consumers are met

Establish if your confidence that the good idea can work and compare that level with the willingness of the actors to invest sufficient time, effort, reputation and money to develop a full business plan, ontology and system design

Provide your own insights of the value impact types that would be generated, and identify what meaningful value could be captured as a legal artefact that, in turn, could be tokenised, and what the tradable asset might worth

Due Date: By 9 am on the 1st June 2021
Weighting (% of final grade): 40%

Description of Assignment:

All students will work on a single typical day in the life of a student scenario that will centre around a root cause problem to some of the typical pain points that students experience when in higher education. During the general discussions and breakout group workshops during the zoom class, these will be identified, as will the suggested solutions sets that will underpin a good idea.

Individual input will be captured in the app of each student’s version of a good idea

Using the Digital Value Capture Web-based App (tablet or computer), complete all the tasks and questions in the Problem Buster module.

We will cover each question during the zoom class so, please get your account established before the class and have it ready to go. If not, then you will not be in a position to participate in the class.
I recommend that you familiarise yourself with the App. Each question has a video explainer (click the top right)
The App will create a full report of your input, including generating the radar maps as a Word File.
You can then use the report to add the additional input discussed during the zoom sessions and add your own research and commentary or cut and paste the content to a report with your own format.
Learning Outcome(s) Assessed:

1.    What are the problems that your start-up wants to fix, and what is the root cause of them?
2.    Are the critical stakeholders and actors in the ecosystem aligned to your perspective?
3.    What are the typical types of system and human pain experienced as a result of the root cause problem?
4.    How does this pain manifest itself in a typical day in the life scenario from a user (UX) experience perspective, and what pain reduction needs to be achieved to get adoption?
5.    What sort of capability (solution) would have to be adopted to get rid of this pain, and what would the value be?

6.    What good idea would work best to address this strategic root problem as well as reducing the operational pain that cascades from each of the operational problems?
7.    What would the likely value proposition be to the customer, enterprise or start-up, as well as the interconnected world (or market sector) that my good idea will operate within, to adopt a good idea?
8.    Does my level of confidence align with the willingness to call the critical actors to invest in the next stage?

Think of the Problem Buster as a ready reckoner that quickly works out the odds of you getting the support you need to develop your good idea and the required adoption of its use.

It helps you find the needle in the haystack, the one good idea out of many that people actually care about enough to support you.

You get support when you can clearly demonstrate that your Good Idea will fix the root cause of the problems that keep them awake at night; the problems that consume them and their resources and stop them from getting on with core business.

Imagine being able to first qualify your confidence in your Good Idea and then develop a 60-second pitch that quantifies their willingness to support you.

How compelling would that pitch be?
