Friend of mine down in Alabama is facing such a problem with the low wages. She claims that as a cook, $800 a week of unemployment benefit might be little more than what she makes in a week, and this is not a minimum wage job she has. At her old job, Olive Garden, they wouldn’t let anyone work close to 40hours a week so they wouldnt have to give the workers insurance. Her mother worked at JCpenny where the employer constantly messed her over with hours to work, her position, her insurance, and replaced her with unqualified people who were in this so-called boss friend group. Her mother had to bear the daily harassment from customers because she needed the money. For this reason, my friend is for people staying in employment and making more than the jobs theyd had. Now there are states ending unemployment benefits prematurely where people have to work the low-paying jobs or starve.
