Any topic (writer’s choice)

1-In class we have discussed a number of parametric tests (t-test, 1-way ANOVA) and we have discussed a number of nonparametric tests (Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis). Please explain, as you would do so in a conference paper, when does one pick a t-test or a Mann-Whitney, when does one pick a 1-way ANOVA or a Kruskal-Wallis test?

2-Some of the issues when evaluating a data set involve an assessment of whether data is normally distributed. Two of the techniques that we discussed in class were a Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and a Shapiro-Wilk test.  When might you use one test as opposed to another test to evaluate normality?

3-What is the goal of investigating variance or standard deviation? Why is knowledge of SD so useful to you when you evaluate a data set?

4. Find an article (or poster) that used one of the statistics topics that we have considered in class. Provide your summary of what the authors explored through the statistical technique, and what their conclusions were. Provide me with the title of the article and the abstract.
Also, critique the authors statistical analysis. For the statistical test that the authors used, did they discuss all the important output? Did they discuss the requirements of the statistical test, and did they present data that demonstrates that the requirements of the statistical test were met? Can you think of any added suggestions you can make to the authors?
