Person-First and Identity-First Language

-Describe and investigate the role or place of this concept in your own life and personal experiences. This means that you explore where this concept fits in your own life.
-Explain how this concept relates to your life and personal experiences.
-Explain how learning about this concept has influenced your understanding of your personal experiences.
Note: This part of the assignment is designed to help you learn by relating course material to your personal experiences. If you have a disability, you do not have to disclose your disability unless you want to. You only need to share what you are comfortable with.
-Describe how you would explain this concept using introductory layperson language to a friend or family member who has never heard of it and who has never engaged with disability studies.
Prior to explaining your concept in layperson language, first identify and challenge any preconceived notions your friend or family member might hold about disability or the concept.
-Explain your concept using introductory layperson language. In your explanation of your concept, include which course material you would share with your friend or family member to help them understand the concept. Be sure to summarize and explain how that specific material will help them understand the concept. In other words, do not only provide which course material you would use but also a justification for its incorporation.
Note: You are welcome to incorporate your personal experiences in your answer, but this is not required. This part of the assignment is different from your initial explanation of the concept because you will be explaining this concept to a friend or family member who is not a part of this class.
