Any topic (writer’s choice)

John Aram, a retired professor of management policy, wrote a letter to the New York Times, Personal Values vs. Corporate Interests. The link is: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/20/opinion/letters/mckinsey-personal-values-corporate-interests.html (Links to an external site.). A copy is included below in the event you cannot log onto the NY Times website. You are of course free to read the Times article he addresses but I am not looking for you to discuss the issues raised in that article.

Please write an essay addressing the following questions. You should use the ethical frameworks, theories and principles we have discussed in class and are covered in the textbook and readings.

What you think the role of corporations (both publicly and privately owned) is in addressing the areas that Professor Aram lists?
What is the proper balance between “the precepts of private enterprise” and “our pressing social and human needs”? You should indicate what you think are the precepts of private enterprise.
What criteria should CEOs and corporations apply in considering the proper balance?
What is the role of ethics in this analysis, if any?
You should use the ethical frameworks and the various concepts of corporate social responsibility we have covered. I would like the essay to be personal and follow some reflection on your own thoughts on the role of corporations.

You may quote from readings we have covered or others you have identified. Please footnote any sources you reference and list in a bibliography any sources you have considered in writing your essay.
