Any topic (writer’s choice)

The aim of this part of the assessment is for you to apply and integrate the theories, models and concepts from this course by articulating the evidence-base to support your recruitment and selection strategy, considering implementation issues and to further develop your business writing skills by presenting your recommendation as a report to a senior stakeholder.

In this assignment, you will take on the role of an HR consultant reporting to me, as the Principal Consultant of our MGTS7612 consulting business. You will present a detailed and evidenced based recommendation to me, as your manager, for the recruitment and selection strategy you have previously presented to your colleagues. Not every manager would expect this level of justification, but I place particular importance on the application of evidence based practice.

You will be seeking approval to initiate the recruitment and selection strategy as you have designed it on behalf of your client organisation. Your recommendation will be structured as a report, and will include a critical analysis drawing on the academic literature to explain and justify your choices of tools to be used in recruitment and selection and the overall process to come to a final decision about the successful applicant. You will need to describe specifically and in depth why and how you will use each recruitment tool to attract or source a targeted candidate pool and how you will use each selection tool to inform your decision making process.  Your Position Description and at least one job advertisement, revised using all previous feedback, MUST be included as an appendix.

Clear and concise written communication is an important skill to develop and hone. A template is attached with guidance on the required sections. The word limit is 2000 words (excluding references, appendices, up to three tables with minimal text and the executive summary).  Appendices must be referenced in-text, presented in order of that reference, and clearly necessary for you to present your recommendation.

In order to argue for your strategy with evidence from current research on recruitment and selection, you must use a minimum of ten (10) good quality, peer reviewed journal articles to support your arguments.  At least seven (7) of these must be drawn from the resources list provided. You may also draw on other good quality sources as appropriate but avoid references to text books and other random, irrelevant papers you may find on the Internet.  All sources must be cited correctly and included in a reference list according to the Academy of Management Journal (AMJ) referencing style.

Please note that aside from the quality of the references, what is most important is how you use the evidence from these sources to justify your recruitment and selection strategy. This involves comparing and contrasting alternate perspectives and choosing options that most suit the job and the organisation that you are working with.
