After reading Chapter 1 Wiesner:

Discuss your impressions of the Ancient Near East.  How important are geographical features, rivers, mountains, etc. to the nature of ancient civilizations?  What are some of the common features of these ancient societies, and what are some of the significant differences?  Discuss the ways in which water and the movement of water defined ancient cultures.
